4 Things I Hope To Do This Year
Nope, it’s not a new year’s resolution. They are goals both short and long term.
So based on a popular strategy in reaching an objective, lets try to set four (4) SMART goals where SMART stands for:
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Realistic/Relevant
T – Time Bound
- Read at least 25 books this year.
It doesn’t have to be equally distributed within the months. There are times that I have more time to read in a day than the other so as long as I finish 2 books a month, it will be okay.
I used to be a voracious reader, a bookworm but not a nerd. I remember reading one book a day, barely taking a break. I read any genre except the gory ones. But since I now have to balance the days being a mom and an employee, my time for this hobby has drastically been cut, so perhaps, a book in two weeks won’t be that bad.
Reading is my first love. I have always dreamt of having my own library with all the books I’ve read. I mostly read novels, from classic to contemporary, but recently, I include reading leadership, management and even self-help books. “There is no substitute for reading.” I often encourage language learners to incorporate reading in their routine. Retention is better that way.
2. Learn a new skill
My hands are probably one of the most useless faculties I have. I m not known to be dexterous.. I can’t do arts such as drawing or craft making. Even my handwriting is terrible.
My daughter has a ukulele just gathering dust somewhere in the house. She used to be really interested in it when she was much younger. I’d learned the basics so there’s something I could show her off, unfortunately, she lost interest. Maybe I can try fiddling with it? Or there’s a bicycle in the garage. I have horrific balance. Maybe I can try to improve that? I gave myself this month to decide which one to focus on. I heard learning something new activates the brain and thus, keeps it healthier and more effective.
3. Be more physically active.
Since I have proven that I can actually work from home without much difficulty, I can stay longer. My life for the past two years was absolutely sedentary. I could barely see the sun and worse, be under the sunshine.
My hometown has a lot of nature. There are a lot of local spots I haven’t even visited. So physically active includes going outdoors and do more outdoor activities such as walking, jogging and visiting tourist or just nice spots in the province. Getting suntanned, or maybe sunburnt at times, will most definitely be welcome.
Also, my weight isn’t that bad but I earned so much unnecessary layers midsection, so I intend to lose them. Got it from too much beer? Could be. I have no plans to buy new pairs of jeans or change my wardrobe so I need to get that skinny, trimmed tummy back! Thirty-minute worth of exercise daily won’t hurt. Let’s lose a few pounds, shall we?
4. Utilize SocMed in a more beneficial way.
Nope. I don’t want to be famous. But since Social Networking Sites have changed how media and businesses work recently, it is only logical to utilize them the best way possible.
I am exactly no tech savvy, but technology is something that changes regardless of our speed of keeping up. It is our responsibility to keep updated and keep up with it. If used properly, it is a valuable platform to reach an audience and a possible market.
With the various sites already congested by content creators and experienced individuals. it’s a struggle to think of new concepts that can attract viewers. Having no prior experience, I have no idea where and what to start, but it has to happen somewhere, somehow. I have a bit over 11 months to figure it out and start something.
Aside from the aforementioned above, I also intend to look after my overall wellbeing. It is my resolve to not pay attention to those that aren’t healthy for my mental health. I promise to ignore and stay away from toxicity. I will focus on the things and people who matter to me. I won’t sweat the small stuff, and that includes keeping my mouth shut for useless arguments and inhibit myself from participating to nonsense conversations. I’d like to reserve my energy to a healthy intellectual discourse.
No day is better than any other day to start. It took me few days after new year to decide on my goals but that’s for good reason. I need to see the actual situation for the visions I would like to realize. I want it to be doable and the situations work for my favor.
Let’s get 2022! Let it be our year of prosperity and good health!
