The Prettiest Pink Dress
Mom and little Annie are in the yard, playing and giggling under the sun
Little Annie has a flower behind her ear, a dainty, sweet-smelling yellow bell
Then here comes mom-in-law, her back as straight as it has always been
With the aura of beauty without a flaw, a personality that always wins
‘Can I take little Annie for a walk?”
Mom-in-law sweetly asked
‘Oh, sure you can mommy”,
Mom can’t deny her that
It’s the first time that had ever happened
Mom-in-law asked for little Annie
For little Annie’s a shy girl
Unlike brave and lively granny.
An hour later, here comes little Annie
With beaming smile on her face
She looks so lovely, her cheeks are even redder
She must be up for something fair!
“How’s your trip with grandma, honey?”
Mom asked her with a smile
She smiled back even sweeter,
“Oh, mom. grandma had a really great buy?’
“Tell me more,” she prodded, with excitement building up
“Grandma asked me to pick, the most lovely pink dress in the shop!’
My heart sang for little Annie
Mom-in-law must have changed her mind.
She never gave anything fancy.
For little Annie in the past.
A knock on the door and an excited yell
“Annie, Annie, I am here!’
It was Angela, her cousin, whom she always cheers!
Angela’s a sweet girl, they are as thick as thieves
Little Annie ran to the door,
with springs on her steps
when suddenly she retreated,
she started to weep.
“What now, honey, what’s the matter?”,
She just looked down in anguish.
I looked up and saw Angela by the door,
with some sweets as sweet as her smile,
Wearing the prettiest pink dress
that Annie chose from the shop.
