I Saw Myself Staring at Me
They say dreams are the extension of your thoughts. But what if that you seemingly can not wake up from that dream?
It is annoying when you are in the middle of a really good dream and then you wake up. That is very frustrating. You force yourself to go back to sleep in the hopes that your dream would also continue. But it never happens.
And then there are dreams that makes you want to wake up as soon as possible. Dreams that are usually scary or horrible. They are called nightmares.
But about the dreams that don’t feel like dreams? You are conscious of what’s happening around you. You can hear the sounds nearby and you even know that you are dreaming. Some say, it’s your subconscious working.
And then there are dreams that you can control. You are aware that it is a dream, and you can manipulate the next move. You can direct the scenes. It is called lucid dreaming. Some say it is possible but extremely rare.
There are so many many that can happen when we are at our unconscious state. People interpret them as our fears, wishes or subconscious thoughts.
But how about when you see yourself staring back at you? They say that once you see yourself like that, your time is about to come. It means that your time on earth is about to end. You are about to die.
It happened to me not so long ago. I am well aware that when I watch or read anything scary, I’ll definitely see it in my dreams. That is why I rarely watch any horror films, graphic news nor violent articles. I make sure to watch safe, fun or feel-good clips before going to bed. So once I had this peculiar event while sleeping, I was horrified.
It was a little past midnight. I had an insomnia attack. I watched Korean variety shows to make my eyes tired and to condition my mind of happy thoughts. After quite sometime, I felt like dozing off when my eyes flew open! And in that state, I could see myself staring right back at me, few inches away from my own face! I was paralyzed, couldn’t even blink. For few seconds, I locked stares with myself. I could see myself lying on the bed. The slowly, my vision became blurry and everything seem to have faded, like the screen when the movie ended.
I really couldn’t tell whether it was a dream or hallucination because the next thing I knew, I woke up at dawn, few minutes before sunrise. I could see the red-orange horizon. I remembered what happened few hours ago. A phenomenon that I learned in Psychology came into my mind; astral body projection or the out-of-body experience. It is said that the human soul can leave the physical body and travel by itself., assuming that soul exists. It was still a theory, not a proven science. But then, how would I explain what happened to me moments ago?
Whether you believe or not, there are still so many unexplainable things and phenomena that exists. Personally, I do believe that the human brain is so powerful that our present knowledge is just a fraction of what it can do. The mysteries of today may not remain as such once the brain functionalities are explored and understood well. But these mysteries make life exciting, don’t they? We all need a little bit of excitement.
How about you, what is your most bizarre experience related to sleeping? What theories fascinate you?
